The Rite of Raising the Djed | Ancient Egyptian Mystery School Teaching

Have you ever wondered what it means to truly stand upright in spirit?
In the hidden architecture of the soul, there is a pillar, ancient, enduring, and luminous. This is the Djed, the sacred spine of the Neter Asar, Lord of Rebirth. More than a symbol, it is the axis of life itself, the channel through which the current of divine power, called Sekhem, rises from Earth to Sky.

To contemplate the Djed is to remember the temple within, the breath aligned, the soul upright, and the body restored to harmony. Across ages, initiates have practiced the Rite of Raising the Djed, a powerful method of awakening the spine, activating life-force, and entering the eternal current of renewal.

Let us explore the hidden geometry and sacred meanings of this ancient sigil.

The Djed Pillar itself holds four crossbars, representing both the vertebrae of Asar and the four elemental gates through which life transforms. Its central shaft mirrors the inner channel of ascent, the Sushumna, carrying the current of divine return.

Around it rise the twin serpents, flowing currents of life-force that spiral upward like the breath of the Ka. They unite at the brow, forming the radiant Eye of Insight, the awakening of inner vision.

At the crown rests the solar disc and the Eye of Ra, the mark of illumination and divine sovereignty. Here the rising force completes its journey, flowering as radiant consciousness.

And beneath it all lies the foundation platform, the wave-etched patterns of primordial Nun, symbol of Earth and cosmic waters. It is a reminder that ascent begins only when we are deeply grounded.

With this wisdom in heart and mind, the ritual begins.

The Rite of Raising the Djed

First, prepare yourself. Stand upright, feet steady, spine aligned. Close your eyes and see the Djed within you, stretching from base to crown.

Step One: Rooting into the Foundation
As the pillar is rooted in the Earth, so are you rooted in the Sacred. Breathe into the base of your spine, sinking roots deep into the soil of memory. With each breath, feel the first vertebra awaken.

Step Two: Breath of the Four Crossbars
For each level, rise with the breath, whispering “Sekhem” as you ascend: pelvis, solar plexus, heart, and throat. With every exhalation, the flame of life stirs within you.

Step Three: Serpentine Activation
Now, feel the twin serpents rising within. They coil upward, intertwining at each center, until they meet at the brow and open the Eye of Radiance. A pulse of energy awakens, and you are filled with living light.

Step Four: Illumination and Crowning
Breathe into the crown. Envision the solar disc blooming upon your head. The pillar glows golden, every vertebra alive. Whisper the sound “Ahhh,” releasing your breath as your body becomes the living Djed.

Closing and Sealing
Place your hands upon the heart and speak:
“My spine is the pillar of the temple.
My breath is the flame that ascends.
I rise in remembrance.
I endure in Ma’at.”

Then, rest in silence, allowing the energy to seal and the remembrance to take root.

For in truth, the Djed is not only a symbol of ancient Egypt, but a living current within us all. It calls us to stand upright in spirit, to root deeply, to rise fully, and to live eternally in harmony with Ma’at.
